Running out of time

Mummy says we are running out of time for our speech development checks on the 15th Sep at KKH. The PD had mentioned at our previous visit we'll need to be able to speak in phrases, at least a "2 words" phrase by 18 months in order for us to be discharge from our premmies reviews. Else we'll have to continue till 24mths and probably they'll refer us to a speech therapist as well. Mummy felt that it was so silly cos after doing "research" online, asked around and reading up development books, she realised it's definitely normal for a 18mths old child not to be able to combine usage of 2 words and above. Referring to this site for Key Stages in Your Child's Speech Development:

At only seven days old, your baby can distinguish her mother's voice from another woman's voice.

Your baby's first attempts to communicate her needs and emotions are through crying. Parents quickly learn how to differentiate a hunger cry from a tired cry or crying about a wet nappy.

At two weeks old your baby can distinguish her father's voice from another man's voice.

At three months your baby will turn her head towards voices, she may stop crying when her parent's speak with her. She will repeat sounds such as cooing and can even make vowel sounds.

At four to six months your baby will notice new sounds such as the telephone or washing machine. She will respond to "no" and to changes in the tone of your voice. Early sound discrimination skills are beginning to emerge. Sounds have a more speech like sound to them e.g.mamama. When playing alone or with parents your baby will make gurgling sounds. She will now pay attention to music. Your baby can also tell you by sound or gesture when she wants something.

At six months your baby can make a few consonant sounds adding to her vowel sounds, and may say 'dada' or 'mama,' but cannot yet attach them to individuals.

At seven months to one year your baby is beginning to turn her head or look up when her name is used. Your child will listens when spoken to. She can recognise common words such as juice or bottle, and can respond to requests like 'Come here'. Your baby will more frequently use speech or non-crying sounds to get and keep attention.

At one year old your child will attach "mama" or "dada" to the right person. Your child can now also respond to one step commands such as 'stop that'. (Yup, able to.)

At fifteen months your child may continue to string vowel and consonant sounds together, but may include real words within the gibberish. She may be able to say as many as ten different words. (These as well.)

At eighteen months, your toddler can say nouns (ball, cup), names of special people, and a few action words. Your toddler should now be able to follow a two-step command 'Go to the kitchen and get your juice'. (Yes, these too.)

At two years old your child can combine words, forming simple sentences like 'Mummy sit.' (it says two years old!!!)

At three years old your child can use two to four word sentences, follow simple instructions, and often repeat words she overhears in conversations.

At four years old your child can understand most sentences, understands physical relationships, on, in, under, uses sentences that are four or five words long, can say her name, age, and sex, and use pronouns. Strangers can now understand your child's spoken language.

Nevertheless, we'll still need to get the clearance so Mummy and Aunty are trying hard to teach us "2 words" phrases like Good bye (consider also, right?), sit down, take shoes, throw ball, no more & etc ... And after don't know how many tries, all they get are just "bye bye", "take", "throw", "no, no", "ball" and either just the 1st word or just the 2nd word alone. Mummy gave up and hope that we'll give her a little surprise by then.

Mummy saw that we had pretty much fun with the Little Tikes playhouse at Yazmin and Danial's place so she took some pixs to show Daddy. Hopefully it'll convince him to get us one too.

Something interesting

The TV programme's clearer or more interesting watched this way?

Poached Salmon in Teriyaki Sauce served with rice and seaweed

We love this dish Mummy cooked today. The poached salmon flesh is so soft compared to the pan-fried one.

Ingredients:

Salmon
Teriyaki Sauce (can get from supermarket or self made)
Spring Onions

Teriyaki Marinade/Sauce (Can skip these if getting Teriyaki sauce from off the shelves):
200ml Clean Tap Water
2tbs Light Soya Sauce
2tbs Mirin (Sweet Japanese Wine)
0.5tsp Light Brown Sugar
1 thin slice Young Ginger

Method:
1. Marinade the salmon with Teriyaki sauce for at least an hour.
2. Pour Teriyaki sauce into a frying pan and leave to boil.
3. Add salmon when boils.
4. Once cooked (check with using a fork, should feel soft when poke), remove from fire and garnish with spring onion leaves.
5. Serve with rice and seaweed. The sauce can be poured over the rice as well.
* Flake/mash the salmon and feed if child is young.
